La piattaforma per blog di Microsoft Live Space, nata nel 2004, alza bandiera bianca, si arrende a WordPress e cede tutti i propri account. Entro Marzo 2011 tutti i blogger di Live Spaces dovranno passare obbligatoriamente alla piattaforma WordPress.
Una grande vittoria per WordPress che si dimostra essere sempre di più la migliore soluzione per la gestione di blog e siti web. Addirittura Live Spaces che conta più di 30 milioni di utenti ed è un progetto del colosso Microsoft ha preferito chiudere gli investimenti nello sviluppo e attivare una partnership con WordPress per tutti i propri clienti.
Fra le motivazione del passaggio, il responsabile del progetto Live Spaces Mehta indica: le caratteristiche avanzate del CMS, la sua scalabilità, l’elevata protezione dallo Spam (del plugin Akismet) e l’elevata possibilità di customizzazione di moduli e template grafico.
Oltretutto va anche evidenziato che questo passaggio significa un’ulteriore vittoria dell’accoppiata (o meglio TRIO) Apache, PHP e MySQL sui suoi corrispettivi concorrenti e rivali Microsoft IIS, ASP e SQL Server.
Considerando che aziende del calibro di Amazon, Google, e Facebook hanno incentrato il loro business su PHP & MySQL snobbando totalmente le soluzioni Microsoft, si può dire con orgoglio che l’open source funziona !
